It’s been a while eh? I know gentle reader that I should maybe spend a little more effort to keep this page more up-to-date. And I have a lot of excuses, but if you pile them up , they are just excuses.

So here is the skinny.

Early February: I learned that my rent was going to go up. This is the embarrassing rash in Alberta, rising rent, it’s that nifty equation [(low) supply + (high) demand = screw the consumer] where a trailer in a crowded trailer park can be rented out for $1100/month or, in my case ; an apartment that is less than 500 square feet and reasonable at $525/month is scheduled to go for $700 in three months time.

Also , I learned that my sister and her husband were considering having a piece of their land sub-divided off and sell it as an acreage. Sitting on said land … an old mobile home. It’s about 15 minutes out of town.

So after talking with them , and my parents, after considering my future, talking with my bosses about job security, after weighing the pro’s and con’s. A little soul searching led me to one solid thought. “no matter where I live , spending money on rent is just tossing money away when I could eventually own something over time for the same cost.”

And I bought the acreage.

Kinda.

Papers have been signed, but before the deed goes into my name the whole red tape thing of having the land subdivided has to happen… it takes about six months, and we are in month 3. So I don’t actually own anything until late July or mid August…

But it is more or less mine.

Currently it is an ugly cracker box, sitting in an open field… and OH MAN when the wind kicks up it’s a nasty bit of business…

It’s a blank canvas really; two acres of flat, black land. A trailer sitting on a chunk of land roughly the size of two foot ball fields sitting side by side….

The mobile home is not a posh flat. but it is very comfortable and a lot more room than I have ever lived in by my self I have two spare rooms which is interesting for me. And all the appliances are new, energy wise.

So I have been making plans and averaging the cost of landscaping, building building deck laying fence erecting gravel dumping sand spreading etc…

My summer will be full .

that’s the big news.
